NEW DIRECTIONS COUNSELING CENTER

Since 1947 it has been part of our mission to offer counseling services to children and families. New Directions Counseling Center is the counseling program at ISS. Staffed by professionally trained clinicians this program offers individual counseling, family counseling and psycho educational groups.

In a comfortable, confidential atmosphere we help people of all ages identify, sort out and work through the issues they face dealing with stress, depression, alcohol or drug dependency, anxiety, anger, school or family problems.

We are able to accept some insurance plans.  For others, we offer a sliding fee scale so that clients never have to worry about insurance running out before they are feeling better.

FAITH IN ACTION
Faith in Action is a program which enlists, trains and supports volunteers who can give an hour a week or more to a client recovering from mental illness.  This service is in addition to any therapy the client may be receiving. The volunteer companions visit, encourage social interaction and accompany clients into community activities.  It is designed to combat the social isolation that often occurs with mental illness. Clients benefit by improving how they feel about themselves and volunteers benefit by learning more about mental illness and how to make helpful responses to it.

Volunteers are needed! We have clients waiting for a companion. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer companion or you would like to refer someone who could use this service, please contact Barbara Goodman at 617-773-6203.
