Harvest Helpers
Interfaith Social Services is dedicated to not only feeding but nourishing our neighbors in need. In an effort to give our clients fresh local produce we instituted the Harvest Helpers program. Each spring and summer we ask backyard gardeners to plant an extra row for the hungry, and then donate it to the food pantry when harvested.
To set an example we have planted a garden at our office in Quincy Center. The garden is growing healthy local produce for our hungry clients, and it is being tended by volunteers. ISS’ food pantry garden shows that healthy food can be grown virtually anywhere.
According to the National Gardening Association there are over 84 million backyard gardeners nationwide. It is one of America’s most popular hobbies. We hope that backyard gardeners in Massachusetts will rally to support the Harvest Helpers program.
We look forward to seeing you later this summer as you begin to donate the fruits of your harvest. We accept donations from 8:30am – 3:30pm Monday through Friday.
Best of luck to you and your gardening endeavors!
Communtiy Support
This year, the staff and owners of Keohane Funeral Home all became Harvest Helpers. Not only did they plant a vegetable garden at their Quincy location, but for two weeks in May they donated seedlings to anyone in the community who agreed to donate the fruits from those plants to ISS food pantry.
